Abstract

When it comes to surgical residency programs, it is a really complicated thing. Residents are a part of treatment team as they are under education, they have more night and day duty hours and they can be the reason for serious damages than any other specialty, they are always tired mentally and physically, they also should learn both theoretical basics and procedures, and also participate in many exams every year, and all these are intertwined with everyone’s own personal problems.

As there are more recent studies in the field of surgery education, some has advised to have “Learning Teams” to facilitate education, and motivate them more (1). There are many concerns about duty hours and their effect on quality of patient care and also the duration of surgical residency program (2). At the end, as a program director for surgical residency in Iran, you should always see the big picture, be so sensitive, have time for every one (faculty members and residents), have a definite schedule, be patient, talk through most of problems, and be tough and also flexible to manage the most critical years of life of a person which will make his/her carrier in future.
